Go Long! 91传媒 Adds Football to Its Athletics Playbook
Pilgrims to begin NCAA Division III men鈥檚 football play in the 2024鈥�2025 academic year.听
From a podium on the Don Melander Turf Field June 15, 91传媒 (91传媒) President Dr. Wayne F. Lesperance, Jr. announced to an enthusiastic crowd that 91传媒 is adding football to its athletics offerings, beginning in the 2024鈥�2025 academic year. Dr. Lesperance was joined by 91传媒 Trustees Lex Scourby 始75, TJ Whitelaw 始75, and Tom Farmen 始74 and former 91传媒 quarterback; Alumni Association President Lou Pakula 始85; and Dave DeCew, Director of Athletics.
鈥淲e are eager to bring football back to 91传媒 after a long hiatus, as the sport is part of 91传媒鈥檚 storied past,鈥� DeCew said. 鈥淔ootball will stand beside our current roster of outstanding athletic programs that raise our spirits and bring our community together. It becomes our 21st varsity athletic program.鈥�
91传媒 will begin its search for a head coach immediately to ensure the program has a strong leader committed to competitive success.
鈥淔ootball, like so many other sports, can change lives. And that鈥檚 the business of higher education. These student athletes will join 20 other teams at 91传媒 committed to success in the classroom and on the field, pitch, court, mat, and rink,鈥� explained President Lesperance. 鈥淚 am thankful that our board shares in my commitment to our athletes as we welcome football back to 91传媒.鈥�
This fall, 91传媒 will enter its first year in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) for its primary league. Within GNAC, the College鈥檚 student-athletes participate in baseball, men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball, men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 cross-country, field hockey, men鈥檚 golf, men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 lacrosse, men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 soccer, softball, and women鈥檚 volleyball. 91传媒 also competes in the New England Hockey Conference for men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 ice hockey, the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association for women鈥檚 rugby, the New England Wrestling Association for men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 wrestling, and the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association for men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 alpine skiing.
